Style, Substance, and a Little Okey Dokey

When I bought my Jeep
Before: Day I got it not that long ago.

When I first got my Jeep, I knew it wouldn’t stay stock for long. That’s the beauty of a Jeep: it’s like a set of Legos for grown‑ups. You can keep swapping, adding, and tweaking until it feels completely yours. And for me, that meant finding the sweet spot between style and substance.

Adding Some Personality

First, I wanted my Jeep to look like my Jeep. Bright yellow already makes it stand out, but I leaned hard into a Fallout theme — Vault‑Tec logos on the doors, “Don’t Follow Me, You Won’t Make It” art reimagined with a vault symbol (Decals.com), and the occasional big blue Okey Dokey tire cover when I’m in a whimsical mood (Fourwheelcovers).

Fun personalized stickers and the whimsical Okey Dokey.

I’ve also got a couple of subtle faith nods that matter to me: an IHS in a crown of thorns and an Our Lady of Guadalupe parish sticker. They sit right alongside the Vault Boy thumbs‑up and New Vegas stickers, and I kind of like that mix — my Jeep tells a story about who I am.

Building for the Trail

After: Pumped with style and personality

Of course, a Jeep can’t just look the part. it has to be the part. That’s where the real mods came in. I added an AEV suspension lift, AEV rims, and 35‑inch all‑terrain tires. I also installed Rock Slide retractable steps that can take a beating off‑road, and a JKS quick disconnect for the sway bar so it’s easy to tackle tougher trails. Smaller touches matter too — a custom gas cap cover, black magnetic covers to get rid of the chrome keyholes, and Bulletpoint dash mounts for my phone and GoPro.

Finding the Right Help

Here’s the thing I learned: you don’t have to figure this all out on your own. I went to Chris Johnson at Rock‑Tech Offroad in La Habra, and it made all the difference. Chris not only installed the big upgrades but also gave me invaluable advice about what works best and what to plan for down the road. If you’re thinking about mods, I can’t recommend him enough.

What’s Next?

While it looks good topless in the driveway, we can’t stay there!

The fun thing about Jeeps is you’re never really “done.” Down the road, I’m eyeing differential lockers and maybe an on‑board air system, but I’ll be leaning on Chris for guidance when the time comes. And speaking of guidance… next time, I’ll be sharing about my first real off‑road adventure with a group of Jeepers. Spoiler: it’s a whole new experience when you’re not tackling the trail alone.

Stay tuned.
